Welcome to your Punta Cana Wedding Checklist! This handy guide is here to help you plan your dream destination wedding in beautiful Punta Cana.
If you’re feeling a bit lost at the start of your planning journey, don’t worry—you’re not alone! Many brides-to-be feel overwhelmed at first. You might know you want to tie the knot in the Dominican Republic but have no idea where to begin. That’s exactly why I created this Punta Cana Wedding Checklist. It’s designed to simplify the process and make your wedding planning as smooth as possible, from start to finish.
Let’s jump in and get started on the wedding of your dreams!
You’re Engaged! What’s Next?
First off, congratulations! Enjoy this amazing moment—you don’t have to rush into planning just yet. But starting early can help you savor those butterflies in your stomach as you envision your perfect wedding day.
The first step is choosing your destination. While you might consider other lovely spots like Mexico or Jamaica, let’s be real: Punta Cana is unbeatable! I might be a little biased since I live here, but trust me, you can’t go wrong with this stunning location.

Set a Budget
Establish a realistic budget range for your wedding. It’s better to have some flexibility than to lock yourself into a strict number. Calculate what you have saved and how much you can save over the coming months. If family members are pitching in, have those conversations early.
Prioritize your needs: What’s most important to you? Where can you splurge, and where can you cut back?
Choose Your Venue
Decide on where you and your guests will stay and where you want the ceremony. I highly recommend considering off-resort venues like Huracan Cafe, Jellyfish Restaurant, or Kukua Beach Club, but all-inclusive resorts can also be great options. If possible, visit these venues in person to get a feel for the space and meet your wedding coordinator. Though we understand this may not always be feasible, you can always request a virtual walkthrough via video call.
*If you are considering Kukua Beach Club, check out our blog post for planning advice and tips!

Create a Guest List
Make a list of everyone you want to invite. A spreadsheet works well for easy edits! Consider whether you want an intimate gathering with just family or a larger celebration. Keep in mind that not everyone can make it to a destination wedding; expect about 30-50% of your guests to attend.
Set a Wedding Date
Before you set a date, confirm that your most important guests can attend. Think about the best weather conditions and your budget, as prices can vary by season.

Hire Your Wedding Team
Now it’s time to book your wedding professionals:
- Officiant: Consider hiring an officiant like Jehison Cabrera, or Alejandro Angulo for a personal touch. Many resort officiants may not speak fluent English and often rush through the ceremony.
- Photographer: Choose a trusted photographer whose style you love. As a wedding photographer myself, I’d love to be part of your special day! If you’re exploring options, read reviews to find the Best Punta Cana photographer.
- Videographer: Capture the day with a videographer who understands your needs. Our videographer offers a discreet and professional approach.
- Makeup Artist: You can book a makeup artist outside the resort for a top-notch experience.
- DJ: A good DJ can energize your reception. Our recommendation for a great local DJ is GCstar Punta Cana.
- Cake Baker: If you’re at an off-resort venue, consider a local baker like Ana from Cake Studio Bavaro.
